Recycled cardboard is a fun and versatile material that we all tend to have stashed away somewhere in our home. We have teamed up with Babysits to help solve this problem! So, instead of throwing it in the recycling bin, why not create something beautiful with it? Gather the kids, whip out the paint and get your creativity on.
What you will need:
Let’s get started!
To get started, all you’ll need is a pair of scissors, a pencil and some cardboard. If you know what animal you’d like to create, you can start by drawing a simple outline onto cardboard and cutting it out. You don’t need to be too picky because you can add some extra details later with a bit of paint!
Next, we created animal shapes to represent different wildlife animals! We then also added two slits to our figures and created “U” shaped legs that will be slotted into these slits.
Now the fun begins! Time to use acrylic paint to create the appearance of each animal. We used colours that matched the animals natural appearance, but don’t be afraid to get creative and spice things up by using unusual colors! For example, try a pink elephant or a green zebra!
Once the base coat is dry, you can go in with a smaller brush to add in all the extra details, like the giraffe’s spots or the zebra’s stripes!
Once everything is dry, you can assemble all the pieces together to bring your animals to life!
And Voila! You now have your own mini collection of animals.
These guys look great sitting on a shelf next to children’s books, or even strung by some string and turned into a mobile!
Why not combine fun and learning whilst building your own wildlife animals together?
